This is a great book by a soul-food master. There were two parts which were so funny that I literally dropped the book out of my hand, but there are other passages, like the one in which little Weaver adds too much salt to the canned peas he is making for his bed-ridden grandma, that had me bawling! If you've ever been to R.E.M.-country (Athens, GA) and had Weaver's great food, you'll love his easy-to-follow home-style recipes that are in the back of the book after his memoir. I've made his Three Cheese Mac N' Cheese two times already and I'm not particularly a whiz in the kitchen. Just by coincidence, this is the third Hill Street Press book I've ordered--they are a cool, little publishing company based in Weaver's hometown.

I heard Weaver on Weekend Edition Saturday with Scott Simon. Though I haven't seen him in years and moved from Athens a long time ago, I will carry to my grave my fond memories of Weaver D and his smiling face (and good food). Read this book! It's the real deal!

Dexter Weaver is the most down to earth person around...and it really comes through in his book. Everything, from his views on life to the recipes in the back are GREAT. If you want to read an uplifting story about life and how to live it, read this book.

ps. His food is mighty fine too.

The book has a very different focus on the Zapatista movement
than most others out there. It doesn't look at it from a present
time point of view and what do the Zapatistas mean, what do they
want, how do they work....

It looks simply at the history of the indigenous people of Chiapas
and their relationship with the mexican governement and tries to
make sense and explain why it is that the zapatista rebellion happened in Chiapas.

Very interesting and well written

This book is amazing, definetely one of the best out there. Dont be fooled by its cheap price, its well worth three times that amount if youre an avid chiapas rebel. For those of you looking for your first Chiapas book, this is definetely the one to choose.

The Zapatista revolution has been the subject of many books, articles, and opinions, but this book covers the subject in the most objective and thorough journalistic manner.

I loved this book so much that I developed a Thematic Unit around it. The book has some of the most outstanding pictures one has ever seen. Through these pictures we get to see Japan's culture, customs, and landscape. The story is great too. Through this book I taught Reading, English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Art, and used the internet to go on a field trip. This is a wonderful book and keeps the reader guessing. Enjoy!

My son's third grade class has been studying Japan. They had a "Japan Day" with lots of Japanese activities. His teacher asked me to read this book to the class. I hadn't read it before and only one child had heard it. They loved it. I have come right home and am purchasing the book for our "library" right now. Highly recommended!

This is a very classic story from Nagoya region, I believe. Taro was as lazy as he can be. He wants to do nothing but laying on the tatami-mats and sleeping where he received his nickname, Three-Year Nap Taro. Pictures and story are full of Japanese culture and your children would like the twisted ending to learn being lazy is NOT good.

I loved this book! This was one of the first books that I read from Genesis Press and I must say this book was sensational. The characters were believable and the plot and action were fast-paced. Never boring. It brought tears to my eyes. Thank goodness for the happy ending.

This is about a couple who meet as teenagers and go through the trials and tribulations. They are faced with deception, career choices, love lost and love found. The author did a fantastic performance in bringing us a story about Alexander (Also called, "Lex") and Breeze. A love so strong between two people that nothing actually kept them apart but they had some serious roads to travel. This is a fast-paced book with a very good storyline that you should enjoy. I enjoyed every chapter and hated to see it end. But all good books must end sooner or later. This was my first time reading a book by this author and look foward to reading more of her work.

I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. Unlike other romances I have read, this is genuine. Breeze and Lex share a true love, not like in the fairytales. Their love is shaken by hard times. I wish that I could find someone like Lex. Read this book. It will make you cry because the wording of this text is just beautiful. Just beautiful...

The year is 2025 and a Government Plage is let loose that kills Yuppies, well some turn into human flesh eating Zombies. They continue their lives driving their BMW's and of course having Yuppie dinner parties. They are now called Yombies.

The Bubbas aren't infected and it's because of their preference for pork rinds, twinkies, spam, cheap Bar-b-Q sauce with meat cooked outdoors and of course cheap beer. No fancy foreign beer or cheese for these guys and gals just the real stuff.

Hillarious moments and some that are just downright funny if y'all have any bubba bones in your body. A few that have a higher gross factor.

To have taken on the task of outlining the basics of the story and then hand it out to various author to put their own twisted Bubba minds to work. Selina Rosen should be give a big hand, Yombie of course.

You cannot read this book without laughing. The world has come to an end, and the only folks left to look after it are not necessarily the folks who care. Meet Bubbas with an itch to plug aliens. Zombies with a taste for human flesh. A wild and crazy riot of a time.
Definately a cult classic of a collection.

Actually, there should be a four and a half star rating available. The poem didn't work for me and one or two stories just missed being gems. The reader needs to be warned that the humor in this book is not tea-sippin'-dainty-pinky-in-the-air smile but gut laughs about bodily functions and outrageous points of view. The basic premise of the collection is that a plague virus, Yuppie 25, has killed or made zombies of everyone except Bubbas (who were immune because of their frequent ingestion of a generic barbeque sauce). More fun than an SUV full of yuppie zombies.

This excellent book is hard to put down but I am afraid that in going from a hardcover edition to a smaller paperback that the maps have become very hard to read. The letters are so small on some of the maps that they are nearly impossible to read. Hope the editors do something about it but I doubt it will happen. Minor flaw in a great read.

Here is one of the most precise book ever written on the whole campaign, starting with the drift to war in Burma and ends with the Japanese surrender. The book is loaded with tons of information on relatively small skirmishes to battles of epic proportions such as the Sieges of Imphal and Kohima, and there are many qoutes to go with the narrative. The book also covers Orde Wingate and his Chindits, Operation Thursday, and the lesser known participation of Chiang Kai Shek's Chinese forces.
This is a must have for history buffs and wargamers alike! I absolutely suggest you to read the whole thing, which may seem impossible at first, but once you have opened it you just can't put it down!

This is an outstanding book that must be considered the definitive single-volume account of the campaign in Burma in WWII. The author is a veteran of the campaign in the British Army where he was an intelligence officer. What is especially enjoyable about this book is that it includes many firsthand Japanese accounts in addition to Allied. The author speaks Japanese and drew upon official Japanese histories and personal interviews with participants. I have read several other books about this often forgotten Theater in WWII ( including Viscount Slim's "Defeat Into Victory" ), but this is the first book that includes Japanese sources. The author starts with the Japanese invasion of Burma and discusses the political situation in Burma prior to the invasion and how the Japanese used this to their favor. It includes the retreat of the British into India, their recovery, the British offensive in the Arakan, and Wingate and the birth of the Chindits. The author goes into great detail about Kohima-Imphal and this is where the Japanese perspective is so interesting. It follows with battles of North Burma and Stillwell, Mandalay/Meiktila and the race to Rangoon and the Japanese breakout of the 28th Army and then the surrender of Japanes forces. The book has good maps and it is not to difficult to follow forces on the battlefield. The most daunting task is trying to remember the Burmese and Indian names for places and trying to remember all the names of the Japanese sources and officers. But all this helps to add to the authenticity of the book. This book is a must read for anyone interested in WWII. It is well written, easy to read and very enjoyable. I highly recommend it.

In the Soviet Union the human continuity of real Marxism was broken by Stalin, but the political program remains today. An important part of this program is collected in this book, which analyzes the early tendencies of the bureaucratic machine that was beginning to supplant revolutionary Marxism. Trotsky brilliantly analyzes the first fruits of Stalin's narrow world outlook in the years following the defeat of the German Revolution of 1923. On the domestic front, he points to the need to build an alliance of the working class and peasantry. Within the party, he calls for democratic discussion to replace lies and slander. Now, with the collapse of Stalinism coinciding with a disastrous crisis of capitalism, is a good time to check out these articles by Trotsky.

This book consists of talks and articles by the leader of the fight to keep the Soviet Union on a revolutionary course from 1923 through 1925. This is the best book about commitment in the workplace so far as I am concerned. Readers may find the style of writing, contents and structure so clear and straightforward.

If you STILL recognise employees' commitment to their organisation is composed of only one dimension based upon "affection" or "identification", probably you're wrong. And if you find your coworkers and supervisors may seem committed to the organisation, their behaviours lead to various results, not simply determined as a good citizen's.

I have had this book for 8 years. It clearly describes compiler theories and examples. It is very useful when I develop very fast parser. (The code generated by lex isn't fast enough.) I am not in the compiler writing business. This book is perfect for me.

This book is a must have. It uses the dragon book (Compilers: principles, techniques and tools by Aho et.al) as a model but goes a great deal further in its use of examples when explaining the theory. Whenever I had a little trouble understanding the dragon book or wished that more examples were used I turned to Holub's book. The book is extremely well organized. If you want the theory its all there and if you want to just look at code its all there too: thousands of lines of it! After explaining everything you actually get to see how lex and yacc are built (from the ground up) and finally a C compiler. BUY IT NOW!!

Only a few words. Using this book, I designed a few compilers for testing languages, using Portuguese words and commands. It is yet on the development age, but, without this book it would not be abler at all.

I purchased this book, obviously, for a class,and I thought it was actually interesting. I had many texts that literally put me to sleep, but this one is different. It makes you think about the penal system in this country, and introduces issues to make you think about things other than locking up the bad guys and throwing away the key. My husband even wanted to read it when I finished my class!!! Recommend highly!!!!

Wow! What a great and interesting textbook. I think this is the first time I've actually been "current" in the reading required for a college course. I'd like to add that the study guide that you can purchase to accompany this textbook is excellent as well. I'd recommend a course that uses this book to anyone with an interest in criminal justice or corrections.

I am using this textbook in a class and it is a whopper. Wonderful pictures, easy to read, clear colors and understandable. I've been working in prisons for 5 years and this book makes a lot of sense. You ought to read their sections on women in prison and on probation. I loved the parts on geriatric prisoners (old cons) and the death penalty. And it is easy to read. More!
